Just launchedReal bike buses only.

Find a bike bus near your school

Search your school to see whether a bike bus rides there. If one does, you get the route, the stops with times on them, the mornings it runs, and how to join. Most schools do not have one yet, so below is how to be sure, and what it takes to start the first.

Start one at your school

Ten minutes, free forever. Publish the route and the stops, and be the bike bus other families at your school find here.

No bike bus yet? How to be sure, and what to do next

01

Ask the school office first

The fastest answer, and people skip it. Bike buses are usually run by parents rather than by the school, but the front office almost always knows one exists, because somebody told them to expect a group of twenty bikes at 8:15 on a Friday. The PTA or parent council is the next call. A bike bus is the kind of thing that gets mentioned once in a newsletter and then lives in a group chat where new families never see it.

02

Check where parents already talk

Most bike buses run on a group chat and a social account, not a website. Search your school’s name together with “bike bus” or “bike train”, plus your city, on Facebook and Instagram. Your city or district may also run a Safe Routes to School office; if it does, it is the single best-informed place to ask, because it usually keeps track of which schools have an active group.

03

If there is not one yet

That is the normal answer, and a smaller problem than it sounds. A bike bus needs a route, a time and three other families to start. Nothing else is required, and no permission from the district is needed to ride to school together on a public street. Publishing your route here is free, and gives families a page you can actually send to someone.
