No bike bus at Westhaven Elementary School is listed here yet. If families already ride together, add it. If not, you are almost certainly the person to start it: most bike buses begin with one parent, one route, and three families who live nearby.
Raise your hand and we will email you if one is ever listed at this school. It takes one tap and commits you to nothing.
A group of families who ride to school together on the same morning each week, picking children up at stops along a set route. Grown-ups ride at the front and the back, so a child who is not ready to ride alone can still ride.
It is a school run, not an event. The same morning, the same corners, the same time, every week.
Nobody official runs it. The grown-ups are the parents already riding, there is no fee and no permission slip, and three families is enough to call it one. Most begin as one street riding together and grow because other families see it go past.
So we do that part. You describe the route once and you get a page you can send to another parent instead of explaining it again, and running it stops being a group chat and a spreadsheet.
A page families can find
Your route, stops and times, at an address you can put in the school newsletter.
People who have said they are coming
Families join from the page and you approve them. No forms to chase.
A weekly answer, not a headcount
Everybody says whether they are riding on Friday, so you know how many grown-ups you need.
A record you can hand over
Who rode, and when. It stays with the bike bus, and it goes to the next organizer when your own child moves on.
Written by organizers who have done it, about the parts that turn out to be hard.

Before a family can say yes, they need the corner, the minute, whether a grown-up has to come, and who makes the weather call. The case for biking can wait.

A parent can lead the ride. The PTA can help families hear about it, find a couple of adults, and open the door to the school office, without taking on the whole thing.

One predictable morning is enough to build a routine. Pick a day your adults can repeat, publish the schedule, and let the ride grow from there.

A bike bus can begin with a route, a regular ride time and a few nearby families. Learn how to start one.
Publish a route today and tell people about it tomorrow. Nothing about it is permanent, and nothing about it costs anything.
